SCROLL

I’m starting this blog with the big news: We Won! Cardinal Real Estate Partners’ weekly e-newsletter was recently honored as the Best Real Estate Newsletter by The Content Funnel for delivering what the group calls “insightful, high-quality content to their clients.” Winners were selected for executing excellent work that “is pushing the field forward,” according to the group, an awesome real estate news aggregator and marketing firm.

It’s a nice pat on the back and has been fun to share the news with my friends and family.

When I created my first website, I was curious about what makes a good website so I researched and found “The Webby Awards”, which honor the best of the internet. I thought how cool it would be to get an award for my website. I later branched out into writing more and taught myself about content marketing. Throughout the years I’ve come to firmly believe that for a small shop it is important to highlight one’s experience and share insights, processes, checklists and other strategies and tools. Sharing content, through my newsletter and blogs, is also fun.

Newsletters have proven to be a fantastic way to stay relevant to one’s contacts, I’ve also found. After 25 years, I literally have a Rolodex of more than 10,000 names that I’ve built and kept fresh through my writing. At first the newsletters were work, but I have learned to love it and I have methods in place that make the process very efficient and enjoyable. I look forward to the time that I set aside to write every week as some of my most treasured time of the week. (I talked about how I developed my habits for productive writing and shared tips for non-writers interested in writing in a previous blog, which you can find here, http://cardinal-partners.com/blog/2016/07/five-tips-non-writer-types-want-write/.).

Writing this newsletter has been rewarding in multiple ways, including sharing insights and cultivating relationships. I admit, it also feels nice for this effort to be recognized by this award. It’s also nice to be included among a group of such well-known and respected firms, such as Regency Centers, honored for its creative, long-term social media strategy and homebuilder Toll Brothers, which received an honorable mention for its use of social media, earning praise for its Toll Talks blog and use of Instragram and Pinterest to showcase its homes. Real estate transactions can be fraught with frustration and pitfalls.

Sometimes the hardest part turns out to be working with your broker, the person who is supposed to help you through the complexities. Veteran commercial real estate broker and client advisor John Culbertson discovered that brokers’ interests aren’t always aligned with those of their clients. He realized there was a better way to advocate for clients and get the deal done.
